Artificial Intelligence? In my schools? It may be more common than you think.

ChatGPT, personal communication, 2024

With the rise of ChatGPT in the classroom, the home and the world at large – I am left with more questions than answers.

Questions like:

  • How can I use this technology as an asset in my classrooms?
  • How can I ensure my students understand the importance of AI as a tool without abusing it.
  • How can I ensure that my students use of AI is appropriate?
  • As a teacher is it appropriate for me to use or rely on AI technology like ChatGPT to write my lesson and unit plans?
  • How can I continue to promote creativity in my classroom as more of my students may become reliant on AI generated prompts?
  • Why is ChatGPT so smart and kind and sometimes funnier than me?

To add a layer to this already mind boggling concept of AI – I only wrote half of those questions while ChatGPT wrote the others. Which is which? Can you tell?

And while I’m excited for the progression of AI technology, and for the current and future possible applications to teaching, I know I’m not alone when I say I’m waiting on the edge of my seat to see where this all goes.
